DV and NV
DV – It means Distance Vision
NV – It means Near Vision
- If only DV has been given by your doctor, that means only a single vision lens is required to get a clear vision.
- If only NV has been given, it means Single vision or Multifocal lens (Progressive or Bifocal) are required to correct the error according to work profession.
- If DV and NV both have been given, it means only a Multifocal Lens (Progressive or Bifocal) are required to correct the error.
It indicates the amount of lens power for astigmatism. If nothing is mentioned in Cylinder (CYL) column, then you have no astigmatism.
Typical range from -20.00 to +20.00
SPH and CYL
Sphere (SPH) – It indicates the amount of lens power.
If the number appearing has a minus sign (–), you are nearsighted (Myopic). If the number has a plus sign (+), you are farsighted (Hyperopic).
• -20.00 to -0.05 (Nearsighted / Myopic)
• +0.05 to +20.00 (Farsighted / Hyperopic)
OD – It means Ocular Dexter – Right Eye (RE)
OS – It means Ocular Sinister – Left Eye (LE)
Axis
Cylinder power is always denoted with the axis. It indicates on which axis astigmatism correction is required.
Value range is 0–180
Prism
This is the amount of prismatic power, measured in prism diopters. It is prescribed to compensate for eye alignment problems.
Pupillary Distance (PD)
Pupillary Distance is the distance between the pupils of your two eyes. It is used to fit the lenses in the frames according to measured PD.
